The final countdown - 16 weeks to go before LEZ enforcement
Eminox urges operators to act now at Coach & Bus Live
- With only 16 weeks to go
until the February compliance deadline for the London Low Emissions Zone (LEZ), Eminox,
the UK's largest exhaust and emissions control systems supplier, will be at Coach & Bus
Live to encourage operators to make their decision now on how to achieve compliance. In
recent months, Eminox has seen demand for retrofit systems rise dramatically, but still
believes many operators have yet to act, potentially leading to a last minute rush to meet
the deadline for compliance.
Mike Galey, Director of Marketing at Eminox, said: "We are increasing capacity to keep
pace with the demand, but are advising operators to place their orders now to secure
delivery before the compliance date." Whilst coach and bus operators have until July 2008
to comply, Eminox still advises early action.
As the most popular choice for retrofit solutions among operators, Eminox is already
seeing its lead-time stretching well into December 2007. So operators are advised to
make their choices now, to ensure delivery before the enforcement date.
At Coach & Bus Live the company will be highlighting some important factors which
operators need to consider when choosing the best solution for them as well as providing
general advice on solutions.
Key facts around the LEZ which Eminox will highlight at the event, include:
- The requirements for the London LEZ will be tightened in 2012 to Euro 4 particulate
matter standard. Eminox systems have recently been certified to take vehicles from Euro 1
onwards up to Euro 4 particulate matter standard, maximising vehicle life by achieving
compliance for London beyond 2012
- CRT®(Continuously Regenerating Trap) and FBC (Fuel Borne Catalyst) systems
reduce particulate matter by over 90%, as opposed to partial filters, which can only
bring it down by around 50%. Partial filters can only advance vehicles by one Euro
standard, such as Euro I to Euro II, full retro-fit systems, such as CRT® and FBC,
are the best long-term solution
- To maintain their approved status, vehicles will need to pass an annual smoke test,
so it's vital that retrofit systems maintain their performance. Both CRT® and FBC systems
work by oxidising soot at high temperatures and regenerate during use. The regeneration
helps to keep the filter clean and the vehicle compliant through ongoing inspections.
Nearly 50,000 vehicles across Europe have benefited from these systems
- Periodic cleaning (on average once a year) is required to maintain optimum
performance, all Eminox systems include service indicators to let the operator know
when they need to be cleaned. With Eminox filter exchange schemes, this is a simple
exchange for a clean filter, to keep the vehicle on the road
The Eminox team will be available throughout Coach & Bus Live on stand J5 to provide
valuable information and advice on LEZ compliance for operators. For more information,
operators should visit: www.eminox.com.
