Eminox seeks new Lincolnshire apprentices

Lincolnshire-based emission reduction specialists Eminox will help bridge the skills gap in engineering and manufacturing by opening its doors to schools and colleges in a drive to recruit local talent.

As the family business continues to expand, the demand for a skilled workforce has increased, including a need for specialised positions in areas such as the Test Cell, Product Design, Manufacturing and Engineering and Toolmaking.

Apprentices 2018

The company took on a number of apprentices in 2017 and is committed to continue to take on more in 2018.

These roles will involve hands-on experience on exciting projects alongside college attendance. Our projects include work on the £86.1 million Transport for London (TfL) project to retrofit around 5,000 buses with more environmentally friendly exhausts in preparation for the new London Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).
Eminox currently employs 274 staff, including contractors, across the business and has created a number of new roles in 2018.

By 2024, around 186,000 people with engineering skills will be needed a year and in order to be able to cope with that demand, meaning that manufacturing and engineering firms needs to train the next generation of workers today.

Due to a national shortage of engineers, Eminox is looking to encourage school and college-aged young adults across Lincolnshire into the industry, offering apprenticeships for those who would like to learn the trade and inspire those who are undecided.

Nick Hobson started as an apprentice at Eminox six years ago and has worked across many of the different departments within the company, whilst on day release to Lincoln College and now Sheffield Hallam University. He said: “If I had to do it all again, I would go down the apprenticeship route every time.

“I have grown up on the job with hands-on experience and technical knowledge. I’m not in any debt because of going to university and because I have been earning as I learn, I managed to buy my own house already.

“Going forward there is potential to develop into other areas of the business. Doing an apprenticeship, I have seen every part of the business and I’ve had to deal with everyone, which is good and I’ve really enjoyed it.”

Anyone interested in a career in engineering and manufacturing is encouraged to get in touch by email to hr@eminox.co.uk.
