Fatigue and Durability Test Capability

We have 5 test rigs to measure fatigue and durability:

4-axis durability rig
1-axis durability rig
1-axis hydraulic cylinder (50kN)
1-axis hydraulic cylinder (400mm)
Low cycle fatigue and heat transfer

An Instron Road Simulation Labtronic 8800 control unit is used with each of these test rigs. It has signal conditioning for position gauges LVDT (Linear Variable Displacement Transducers) and load indicators (strain based load cell). It can also accept high level analogue input levels.

4-axis durability rig

The rig is designed for 7-axis with 4 vertical and 3 horizontal cylinders but can be configured for a wide variety of tests. The 4 vertical cylinders, mounted on a truck chassis, enable bounce, roll, pitch and twist. We can take your test signal or load spectra, or provide them ourselves.

We can test a wide variety of components fitted to the chassis, such as exhaust systems and fuel tanks.

Technical specification
LVDT +/- 125 mm
Cylinder capacity +/- 50kN dynamic
Frequency range 3-40 Hz
Servo valve capacity 2x40 litres hydraulic oil / min
Capacity of substation 2x230 litres hydraulic oil / min
Capacity of hydraulic pumps 200 litres hydraulic oil / min

1-axis durability rig

This test rig is used to assess the impact of vibration on the durability of components on the truck frame, to asses manufacturing methods and exhaust system, fuel tank and emissions control components. A servo hydraulic cylinder acts vertically on the test object giving a so called mass load. The size of the rig also enables us to perform comparative tests of smaller test objects. We can take your test signal or load spectra, or provide them ourselves.

Technical specification
LVDT +/- 75 mm
Rig limitations +/- 30 mm
Cylinder capacity +/- 100kN dynamic
Rig weight 800 kg
Weight of test object max 1000 kg
Frequency range 3-40 Hz
Servo valve capacity 2x40 litres hydraulic oil / min
Capacity of substation 230 litres hydraulic oil / min

1-axis hydraulic cylinder (50kN)

The test cylinder is used for one axis vibration tests with random load spectrum or tests with constant amplitude. The test setup is changed to give the wanted load case and to fit the individual test object. This is an ideal setup for testing catalyst system and manufacturing methods.

Technical specification
LVDT +/- 75 mm
Cylinder capacity +/- 50kN dynamic
Frequency range 0-100 Hz
Servo valve capacity 2x40 litres hydraulic oil / min
Capacity of substation 230 litres hydraulic oil / min

400 mm test cylinder

This test cylinder is used for one axis vibration tests with random load spectrum, constant amplitude tests or force controlled static tests. The test setup is changed to give the wanted load case and to fit the individual test object. We have used this setup for push-out tests of embedded catalyst substrates and the evaluation of internal baffles.

Technical specification
LVDT +/- 200 mm
Cylinder capacity +/- 50kN dynamic
Frequency range 0-100 Hz
Servo valve capacity 1x40 litres hydraulic oil / min
Capacity of substation 230 litres hydraulic oil / min

Low cycle fatigue and heat transfer

Using the custom heat rig we can measure heat transfer, low cycle fatigue (LCF), heat loss and thermal insulation. The test setup is often used to measure the heat cycle of catalyst substrates and evaluate the method of fix, and the effect of heat on welded structures.

Technical specification
Temperature Range 100°C - 550°C
Accuracy +/- 5°C
