Transport for London (TfL) estimate that 145,000 vehicles will not comply with the requirements for Phases 3 and 4 of the London LEZ 2012, and expect more than 20,000 of these to take the more cost-effective retrofit compliance option.
We have successfully upgraded thousands of vehicles to meet the new LEZ requirements at our fitting centres located throughout the UK. Customers including Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd, bus and coach operator TGM Group and specialist vehicle operator MTS Cleansing Services, having already retrofitted our CRT® to make their vehicles compliant ahead of the 3 January deadline. We recently opened our new London Service Centre in Slough to help meet the anticipated demand.
There is increasing concern within the retrofit industry, that operators who leave it too long to comply may face a supply and fitting bottleneck and could potentially miss the deadline. We are advising that, in order to avoid the last minute rush, operators should have their plans to upgrade their vehicles in place by the end of September at the latest. We are also advising that operators who place their orders now will be able to get their vehicles compliant before the deadline.
The penalties for non-compliance are high. Operators who leave it too late will be faced with a daily charge of up to £200 for each non-compliant vehicle that travels within the restricted Zone, or face a fine of up to £1,000 for non-payment.
