Danish Environmental Zones (E-Zones)

In December 2006, the Danish Parliament passed ’Bill 39’ allowing the creation of Environmental Zones (E-Zones) in 5 cities in Denmark. The details of the E-Zone schemes are now being prepared by the 5 municipalities.

From July 2008, the law requires all trucks and buses of Euro 2 standard or older, to have particulate filters fitted in order to enter the E-Zones.

From July 2010, all Euro 3 trucks and buses must also have particulate filters.

Euro 4 and 5 vehicles will not be affected and are free to enter the E-Zones.

Drivers of foreign trucks must have documentation showing that their vehicle is fitted with a particulate filter, in order to enter an E-Zone.

To qualify for the E-Zones, particulate filters must comply with the specifications of the Danish Road Safety and Transport Agency (DRSTA) and the Danish Technological Institute (TI)’s principal approval scheme.

The Bill will also require annual testing of the particulate filter, at the same time as the vehicle is tested for roadworthiness.

The Eminox Continuously Regenerating Trap (CRT^®) particulate filter is approved by the DRSTA and TI. CRT^®s have been used in retrofit schemes across Europe.

Eminox offers an Electronic Service Indicator (ESI) to identify when particulate filters require cleaning. Specialist filter cleaning can be provided in Denmark.

Grants are available for up to 30% of the cost of fitting diesel particulate filters by, applying to Danish MIljøstyrelsen.
